What Does C4 Do?
Far from being a glorified caffeine supplement, which the supplement market is absolutely rammed with at the moment, this product is designed to not only provide an immediately noticeable boost in motivation and mental focus, but it also provides a significant enhancement to muscular pumps, explosive strength, and increased endurance for rep after rep of optimal performance.
C4 Extreme also includes vitamins such as C and B12, the former of which can provide antioxidant protection against the greater demands you’re placing on your body, while also helping to stem the tide of the muscle-wasting stress hormone cortisol.
This combination of high-level ingredients helps you in turn to work harder and longer so that you can be at your very best every time you set foot inside the gym.
What’s In C4?
Perhaps the most interesting ingredient in C4 Extreme is a form of creatine called creatine nitrate.
Creatine nitrate offers the dual benefit of increasing cell ATP levels in the same way that creatine monohydrate does, but with the added vasodilatory effects typically associated with nitric oxide or NO supplements.
C4 Extreme also contains beta alanine and arginine AGK, as well as a unique energy boosting blend containing N-Acetyl-L-tyrosine, mucuna pruriens, vitamin B12, caffeine, niacinamide, folic acid, and synephrine HCL.
Many of these ingredients work synergistically to enhance the delivery of nutrients to muscle cells, prime the nervous system, and boost overall energy levels for more productive workouts.
How and When do I Take It?
C4 Extreme is a pre-workout supplement, which means that it is to be used only on your training days.
It is generally recommended that you begin by using a smaller dose than usual so that you can assess your personal tolerance to the ingredients.
Begin by taking a single scoop mixed with 4 – 6 oz of water around 20 – 30 minutes prior to your workout.
If no adverse side effects are experienced then you can increase your dose to two scoops, this time taken with around 8 – 12 oz of water half hour or so before training.
For each additional scoop you take an extra 4 – 6 oz of water should be taken, and be sure to drink plenty of water throughout your workout to ensure the optimal delivery of nutrients to your muscle cells, and to prevent dehydration in hotter or more humid environments.
What are the Benefits?
The benefits provided by C4 Extreme are as follows:
- Creatine Nitrate enhances pumps for an improved mind-muscle connection, as well as increasing cell ATP levels for increased energy and force production.
- Beta Alanine boosts intramuscular carnosine levels for enhanced strength and muscular endurance, while also keeping fatigue at bay by reducing lactic acid concentrations.
- Arginine NGK, a precursor to nitric oxide, is a powerful vasodilator which increases blood flow and subsequently enhances the delivery of nutrients to muscle cells.
- Explosive Energy Blend containing ingredients such as N-Acetyl-L-tyrosine, caffeine anhydrous, vitamin B12, and synephrine HCL, provides a substantial hormonal and neural boost for an increase in overall energy production, mental focus, and motivation… with an added fat loss boost to boot!
Are There any Pre-Cautions?
As with any product containing stimulatory or blood flow-enhancing ingredients, it is absolutely vital that you consider any medication you are currently taking, as well as any prior or underlying medical conditions you may have or have had.
Do not take this product if you are under 18 years of age, are particularly sensitive to caffeine or other stimulants, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Cease use if you experience any adverse side effects, and if in doubt, please consult your doctor for a professional opinion.
Other than the obvious precautions, C4 Extreme appears to be safe for general use.
Available Flavors and Serving Sizes
C4 Extreme is available in the following flavors:
- Fruit Punch
- Green Apple
- Icy Blue Razz
- Lemon Lime
- Pink Lemonade
- Strawberry Margarita
Cellucor has also seen fit to provide a range of three different serving size options:
- 5 Servings
- 30 Servings
- 60 Servings
This provides first time uses with a unique opportunity to try out a ‘sample size’ container so that they can see the effects for themselves without having to invest in a one- or two-month supply initially.
Rather than looking at the overall ‘feel’ of this supplement it is important to look beyond the initial stimulatory effects which, let’s face it, can be found at the bottom of any half-decent cup of coffee!
The quality of the ingredients in C4 Extreme is pretty undeniable, with the reliable usual suspects like arginine and beta alanine providing a noticeable improvement in pumps and fatigue offset, respectively.
I was a little skeptical about creatine nitrate or ‘NO3’ at first because designer creatines and other vasodilators are very common in, shall we say, arguably less effective products. Despite my initial reservations I’ve been very much impressed by the results so far.
One thing I would like to point out is that some users have reported a reduction in pump and overall efficacy after a couple months of continuous use, so for this reason it may be advisable to cycle off for a couple of months after 8 weeks or so.
This should enable your body to essentially become resensitized to the ingredients when you come back to it.
Is it worth the money?
If you’re serious about enhancing your performance and improving your physique then it should go without saying that a decent pre-workout supplement needs to be in your supplement arsenal.
C4 Extreme sits somewhere in the upper-middle range of the market in terms of price; with arguably less effective equivalent products fetching around the same price, if not higher.
I always feel the pinch when it comes time to buy a fresh batch of supplements, but that’s just the nature of the beast when you’re a serious bodybuilder, so at least with C4 Extreme you’re getting that peace of mind that your investment is a relatively worthwhile one.
A 30-serving container of C4 Extreme starts at around $29.99 and should last you a solid 4 – 6 weeks, depending on your training frequency, so I’d say it’s definitely worth the money.
C4 Extreme promises:
- Enhanced Energy;
- Enhanced Mental Focus;
- Greater Pumps;
- Greater Explosive Strength;
- Reduced Lactic Acid Production;
- Increased Fat Burning; and
- Better Overall Performance
Fat burning is a difficult subject because it is largely dependent upon your training style, diet, and so on, but improved performance can definitely be attributed to many of the substances, common or otherwise, found on the ingredients list.
As we’ve already established, a pre-workout supplement is an absolute must at a certain point in the physique game, and should almost definitely help you to gain that extra edge once it comes time to lay your hands on some iron.
For these reasons, Cellucor C4 Extreme definitely seems to be a worthy addition to your pre-workout ritual, so we recommend grabbing a month’s supply so that you can run your own trial.
If you’ve never used a pre-workout product before then you should notice a huge difference from the first workout, but even if you’re familiar with this type of supplement… let’s just say you could be in for a few surprises!
