What Does Optimum Nutrition Essential AmiN.O. Energy Do?
Optimum Nutrition Essential AmiN.O. Energy contains a simple blend of free form amino acids and caffeine-based stimulants to help kick start your workouts while also providing your muscles with almost everything they need to prevent excessive catabolism. The inclusion of Beta Alanine is noteworthy because it helps to act as a buffer against lactic acid so that you can work longer and harder throughout your workouts and even during individual higher-rep sets.
It should be noted that this product contains caffeine, so if you are particularly sensitive to stimulants then you will definitely want to bear this in mind before placing your order.

How and When Do I Take It?
As per the manufacturer’s recommendations, you are to mix two scoops of Essential AmiN.O. Energy with 10 – 12 oz of cold water.
This supplement can be taken any time of day but is ideally placed first thing in the morning when you wake up feeling beaten up from yesterday’s workout, or as a pre-workout supplement taken 20 – 30 minutes prior to training.
You can also use this supplement during the post-workout period in order to expedite and maximize your recovery.
Begin by using a single serving and then increase from there once you have assessed your tolerance to the ingredients.
What are the Benefits?
The most obvious benefit of Essential AmiN.O. Energy is that it contains the BCAAs L-Valine, L-Isoleucine, and L-Leucine, the latter of which is instrumental in stimulating protein synthesis within the body so that your muscles have what they need to repair themselves more efficiently.
Citrulline is also an interesting addition in that it, in combination with L-Arginine, promotes nitric oxide production throughout the body resulting in increased pumps and vascularity.
Some people may tell you that the pump is meaningless and does not directly affect muscle hypertrophy, but this is nonsense when you consider the additional nutrients that are being forcefully driven into your muscle tissues with each contraction.
Furthermore, the inclusion of caffeine means that you will benefit from enhanced mental focus and all-round energy output.
I do have more to say about the caffeine content below so please be sure to check out the Efficiency section of the review below.

Optimum Nutrition or ON is certainly one of the best supplement brands on the market these days, and they’ve done a fairly decent job with Essential AmiN.O. Energy.
I’m not a fan of amino acids or pre-workout supplements that include caffeine because I would personally prefer to source my caffeine elsewhere, ideally in the form of a big pre-workout cup of black coffee, but aside from this I like what has been done here.
Is it Worth the Money?
If you are happy with the caffeine content then I would say that this supplement is definitely worth the money.
Amino acids really are an essential supplement for any aspiring athlete or bodybuilder, so I see no reason why you shouldn’t invest in this kind of product if you’re looking for something to enhance your recovery capabilities.
As I always say with supplements like this, I’m not impressed by the caffeine content, but the green tea extract is a decent addition because of its thermogenic and antioxidant properties.
Optimum Nutrition Essential AmiN.O. Energy is clearly well thought out, regardless of how much I might dislike the inclusion of caffeine!
I really can’t fault Optimum Nutrition for the formulation of this product because combining BCAA with L-Arginine, Citrulline, and L-Glutamine gives you a well-rounded selection of amino acids that should definitely give you a noticeable boost of energy, strength, and all-round endurance while training.
I would generally prefer to buy bulk BCAA powder and flavor it myself by combining it with other standalone supplements, but if you’re in the market for a decent amino acid concoction then Essential AmiN.O. Energy is well worth your investment.
